This happened to me in November with xdvi 22.74.  I wrote the 
maintainer who acknowledged this and apparently has fixed it.  I say 
that because I've since installed xdvi 22.78 via Fink and it works 
fine.  In Terminal, type xdvi -version and see which version you get.  
I'm not sure if version 22.78 is in the stable tree or not, because I 
always use the unstable tree when available.

I hope 22.78 works for you.
