Tried 'ethereal' at the command prompt. That didn't work:
Eric-Lechts-Computer:/ elecht$ ethereal
Gtk-WARNING **: cannot open display: Eric-Lechts-Computer:/ elecht$
startx (I tried...) wasn't much more helpful:
Eric-Lechts-Computer:/usr elecht$ startx
/usr/X11R6/bin/startx: line 49: syntax error near unexpected token `'''
/usr/X11R6/bin/startx: line 49: ` XCOMM '' required to prevent cpp from treating "/*" as a C comment.'
Is this a Fink-installed XFree86 or Apple X11 (the solution depends on your answer)?
You've got the right idea: start X11 and then run the 'ethereal' command.
