I'm trying to compile the Gnome-based program StarDict from
http://stardict.sourceforge.net, but the configure script stops on
----
checking for poptStrippedArgv in -lpopt... no
configure.sw: error: popt 1.5 or newer is required to build
stardict. You can download the latest version from
ftp://people.redhat.com/sopwith/popt/
----
The thing is I have popt 1.7 installed. The script SHOULD work (it
shouldn't have any trouble finding popt since it finds the gnome
libraries okay) as far as I can tell. The only thing I found on Google
with a similar problem was something about an m4 macro setting the
compiler to g++ and not setting it back (this apparently wasn't a
problem using an earlier version of autoconfig). I've done some
looking, but I don't see anything that seems to be doing that, and I'm
using the version of autoconfig that the configure script was generated
with. However, I don't have any experience working with configuration
scripts (other than "./configure"), so I'm not really sure how what I'm
looking for or the best way to debug. Any pointers?

Thanks,
Scott
