I'm trying to compile the Gnome-based program StarDict from http://stardict.sourceforge.net, but the configure script stops on ---- checking for poptStrippedArgv in -lpopt... no configure.sw: error: popt 1.5 or newer is required to build stardict. You can download the latest version from ftp://people.redhat.com/sopwith/popt/
The first thing to look at would be the config.log file. It will tell you what the real error was that made configure say it didn't find popt.
It could be that it looked at the right place for libpopt.dylib, but the file was not there, or that it didn't look at the right place, or that it looked for quite another file and didn't find it, or something yet completely different.
