Alexander, thank you for your mail.

I tried those commands from both Terminal.app and xterm.

From Terminal both commands seem to run OK, but without any result.
From xterm there is an error.

Here is the output.

From Terminal.aap

Welcome to Darwin!
twister:~ administrator$ xfontpath install msttf
xfontpath: can't open `/sw/etc/xfontpath.conf.new'
twister:~ administrator$ sudo xfontpath install msttf
twister:~ administrator$ sudo xfontpath enable
twister:~ administrator$ sudo xfontpath enable
twister:~ administrator$

This seems normal.

From xterm

twister:~ administrator$ sudo /sw/bin/xfontpath install mstt

twister:~ administrator$ sudo /sw/bin/xfontpath install msttf
twister:~ administrator$ sudo /sw/bin/xfontpath enable

Directory does not exist or has wrong permissions
    Directory missing fonts.dir
Incorrect font server address or syntax

This looks like your Fink PATH setting isn't being honored by X11--this is a common issue:

[stop]

I still can't see any Corefont font from any application.

Bye,

Hi all,

I just installed msttcorefonts and all related packages, including xfontpath, but none of those applications can see those fonts. I have Panther 10.3.4 with X11 1.0.

They see only a limited number of fonts and none of them are Unicode. It seems I made a mistake somewhere.

If I understand well, all this stuff with xset fp+ in .xinitrc is now obsolete and one needs to use different methods to activate fonts.

Actually I don't have any .xinitrc at all. If I create a new .xinitrc with xset... X11 doesn't start and silently quits.

Can someone point me in the right direction?

Many thanks in advance,

Vladimir

Here's what I use:

....

xfontpath install applettf freefont ghostscript/Type1 msttf sharefont konsole
xfontpath enable

....

If there's a newer way, I'd like to know, too.

By the way, did you also invoke a window manager in your attempt at a .xinitrc?
