I thought that I'd add that on 10/9/04 , probably when installing Gimp (and XFree86?) a directory "libwmf" was added to "/sw/lib/X11/fonts". I moved this out of the way as well as removed several fonts from "applettf". Perhaps this is the issue with no fonts in Konsole? When I put "libwmf" back it completely freezes KDE.
Any ideas?
Thanks for all of the help Martin and Alexander. Your gentle, yet firm approach helped me figure out much of the issues. I deleted some fonts and alias's to fonts in /sw/lib/X11/fonts and now XDarwin seems to be ok and Gimp2 is launching. A strange thing is that Konsole in KDE has no fonts at all.
Any ideas?
