Some more info Martin. As I said earlier, the permissions of /.fonts is me. A little more digging and I see that /sw/lib/X11/fonts is owned by:[Brian-OKeefes-Computer:/] brianokeefe% ls -l /sw/lib/X11/fonts
total 0
drwxr-xr-x 131 root admin 4454 Oct 2 13:20 applettf
drwxr-xr-x 6 root admin 204 May 4 19:18 konsole
Should I change that permission also?
No, this is OK, these directories are managed by fink, so they can be owned by root, you don't change them yourself. Only if you find things in in your home directory that are not owned by you, you should change the ownership. ~/.qt is one of those where this happens, too. They sometimes get installed when the corresponding program is run for the first time from inside a fink installation, and then they end up owned by root. When you then run the program as yourself, it cannot write into its configuration directory.
