I would like to install Octave on my Mac G4 with MacOS 10.3.5.

I installed Fink the first time I tried this, but it didn't seem to get me
anywhere, so I gave up. I thought I'd try again and it seemed to imply that
I should upgrade my version of Fink. I tried "fink update-all" and it
chugged away giving me a bunch of messages, some of which suggested that it
wasn't working right. It ended with:

"### execution of /var/tmp/tmp.3.4sVc5J failed, exit code 2
Failed: installing ncurses-5.3-20031018-2 failed"

I haven't a clue what this means, after all, I use a Mac because I'm trying
to avoid learning all this stuff. But I don't know what this means.

Also, I can't figure out how I get to Octave after all of this.

Can any kind soul help me with this.

Please remember, I don't understand all of this compiling stuff.

Thanks,
Paul W.
