Installing scrollkeeper fixed the install problem. But there's still something missing. When launching Gnumeric I got lots of error messages all ending with:
Failed to launch configuration server: Failed to execute child process "/sw/lib/gconf2/gconfd-2" (No such file or directory)
... so I installed gconf2 and the errors changes to:
** (gnumeric:19973): WARNING **: Unable to load key '/apps/gnumeric/printsetup/hf-font-bold'
** (gnumeric:19973): WARNING **: Using default value 'false'
** (gnumeric:19973): WARNING **: Unable to load key '/apps/gnumeric/printsetup/hf-font-italic'
** (gnumeric:19973): WARNING **: Using default value 'false'
... etc etc
and when I open preferences most options simply say 'schema missing'. Opening 'format cells' crashes the app.
So, I was missing the config database, that's now installed but it's empty. I'm stuck. How do I populate the config DB?

There's a missing dependency in -12. I just uploaded -13 to fix this.
May take several hours to propagate across our mirror servers, then
you can "selfupdate" and get it. In the mean time, you can install the
"scrollkeeper" package and then gnumeric will be happy.
