Hmm, that seems like it would be OK... What about "sudo find / -name libqpng\*" ?
Also, you may want to try pointing to Rob Braun's unofficial bindist and see if you can get the latest binaries there, maybe there's just some disconnect and doing that would help. If you want to try that, add these lines to /sw/etc/apt/sources.list:
deb http://fink.opendarwin.org/darwin 10.3/unstable main crypto
deb http://fink.opendarwin.org/darwin 10.3/stable main crypto
...and then do "sudo apt-get update; sudo apt-get install qt3". I can't guarantee his packages are alright, but they should be. =)

Consider them mandatory. "Mandatory defaults" has a nice ring
to it.
