Hello,
I thought that I might reinstall qt3-3.2.3-23 to see if that helped the update that I've been trying. I get error messages that the .deb file can't be found and when I try to rebuild the same I get a message that there is no description for the package.

It must no longer exist on the server then.

My questions are:
1. can I get the .deb file from somewhere?

Only if somebody has it around by chance.

2. Any idea when qt3-3.3.3-26 might be available as a binary? Maybe I could install an already compiled version?

It's got to get moved to the stable tree first--people need to give sufficient positive feedback for the maintainer to do so. The "unofficial" binary distribution that we pointed you to before would be the place to try to find it.

If you're using xorg for your X11 server I can give you access to my own .deb files--they won't work with Apple's X11, and some probably won't get along with XFree86-4.4.

I'm learning to like Gnome2.6 but I know that the kde apps that I'm running on it cannot be updated until my qt3 woes are resolved. (I've avoided the fix that Alexander suggested since I figure that it would take weeks to rebuild or wipe and reinstall, not to mention all of the issues that needed resolving the first time around!)

Another option might be to see what qt3 stuff you have installed, then try to "sudo apt-get remove" those packages. You'll get a list of all of the files that depend on them--note those somewhere (e.g. paste them into a text file, Sticky, etc.), then go ahead and do the remove. At that point your system should be cleaned of old qt3 stuff, and you can try to build 3.3.3.

Thanks, Brian

Muchas gracias Alexander (I'm practicing Spanish for my upcoming trip to Costa Rica),
I'll be gone for a couple of weeks and when I return I'd like to get some help on switching from xfree86 to x.org after all I've read about it being a better version with transparency and all. I'd want to know how to remove xfree86 without bunging up all the dependencies. I could then use your qt3-3.3.3-26.deb file and hopefully be on my way! If there are any FAQ on this I haven't seen them as yet. Anyway, I'll be in touch in a bit.
Again, I can't thank you enough for all the help.
Feliz navidad y prospero ano!!
Brian
