The first part of your most recent msg was: >> PowerMac:~ davidlowe$ xscreensaver-demo >> xscreensaver-demo: 09:07:32: Gtk-warning: cannot open display: > > Which didn't turn up anything obvious on google. Which is one of the more FA'ed items on the Fink FAQ, and whose answer could also be found in several of the top google hits for: "cannot open display" fink Maybe you happened to post at a time that all the people who spend half their day posting the URL to various FAQ items were on vacation. > If you don't mind my saying so, this isn't the 1st time i've gotten > treated like this here. If a beginner can't get answers here - not > even an RTFM Consider this your RTFM. Beginners should always begin by RingTFM, else we're wasting a lot of time writing docs and FAQs, no? Continuing on: >> PowerMac:/sw/bin davidlowe$ ./xscreensaver-demo >> xscreensaver-demo: 09:08:40: XScreenSaver-warning: No builtin or >> dynamically loaded modules >> were found. Pango will not work correctly. This probably means >> there was an error in the creation of: >> '/sw/etc/pango/pango.modules' >> You may be able to recreate this file by running pango-querymodules. So...did you? How much more explicit an answer were you hoping for? Sure, it seems like the fink pkg should be doingeverything for you, but presumably it worked for the packager when it was written. Since there's an infinite number of user and system configurations possible and you saw nothing relevant on google, perhaps your system is pretty different from the test system. That't mean it could be very hard for the volunteer maintainer to solve this except by having you test it. Consider how "X didn't work, it said do Y; when I did Y, X it worked" could lead to an improved fink package for everyone, while "X didn't work, it said to do Y; now what???" isn't so helpful to anyone?
