[Fink-beginners] imshow under octave

I've installed thru fink the last version of  octave together with the 
extension octave-forge. I wonder why i'm not able to use the command 
imshow.
Example

colormap('default');
x=rand(100,100);
imshow(x);
the imshow doesn't produce any output. No errors but simply nothing 
happens. Am i missing some fink package? Can someone test the commands 
on his own Mac?
