Would I just download it into my home directory, delete the newer version and 
run your instructions? I assume that my currently updated fink ported pkgs 
would work since you succeeded. In the meantime i look forward to your next 
instructions, though if the gnome gang doesn't update their end I'm not sure 
how you'll proceed.
