Thanks for the reply,
My question then is, can planner be installed into /sw instead of /usr?
I understand Martin's motivation and I am clear that the fink project couldn't
possibly endorse non-fink methods and believe me I took his admonition very
seriously before he even wrote it! I feel that every time that I execute
some potential fix that I get from the list that I am taking a risk at some
level. One local Mac shop told me to "never, ever use open source or beta
stuff on your box. You are only asking for trouble!" I, of course, have
chosen to risk some problems to enjoy and be part of what the fink project is
working on. I really feel that it is a potential model for many things. I
never even consider that the fink project is in anyway responsible for my
dabbling and that even when fully vetted packages screw up (like when
kaddressbook lost all my addresses) I know that it is part of the practice.
Perhaps my mistake was in thinking that Patrick's efforts were moving planner
into the fink world somewhat and that even Alexander's experiment was with
that in mind also. I just need to decide if I want to try Patrick's approach
or wait for some indeterminate period for planner to get ported via fink. My
choice, my responsibility.
Again, many thanks to all and Martin has helped me out some fixes in the past
and I greatly appreciate the time given.
