Unfortunately, the suggestion that apt-get gives you doesn't apply here. On the other hand the messages are covered in the FAQ:

The link only brought me to the top of the page,

ummm....works here (on multiple browsers).

so I'm not sure which Q-A I was supposed to read. I scanned through the list and saw two likely culprits (Q5.14 & Q5.24). The first wasn't helpful since the selfupdate was what was complaining. Based on the second I did a scanpackages for which I got this output:

16:12 [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~ (.337M)(77.7%)] $ fink scanpackages
Information about 1840 packages read in 1 seconds.
dpkg-scanpackages dists/local/main/binary-darwin-powerpc override | gzip >dists/local/main/binary-darwin-powerpc/Packages.gz
Wrote 0 entries to output Packages file.
dpkg-scanpackages dists/stable/main/binary-darwin-powerpc override | gzip >dists/stable/main/binary-darwin-powerpc/Packages.gz
Wrote 97 entries to output Packages file.
dpkg-scanpackages dists/stable/crypto/binary-darwin-powerpc override | gzip >dists/stable/crypto/binary-darwin-powerpc/ Packages.gz
Wrote 9 entries to output Packages file.
dpkg-scanpackages dists/local/bootstrap/binary-darwin-powerpc override | gzip >dists/local/bootstrap/binary-darwin-powerpc/ Packages.gz
Wrote 0 entries to output Packages file.

So far so good.

Then I ran another selfupdate and received this response. Looks better, but there was still an error in the middle when updating the package index. Thoughts?

I believe this is nonfatal. In any case check your /sw/etc/apt/ sources.list: if one of the "deb" lines has

local bootstrap

beside it, this would account for this message.
