Thank for all the suggestions!
Now i'm using apple's x11 with kde and gimp: it doesnt give any problem despite on this article (
http://www.appletalk.com.au/articles/index.php?article=12088) it's written the contrary.
kde works great both in full screen mode and rootless.
a question: if i set x11 to start at startup (with macosx system preferences) it just starts (the black triangle appears under the icon on the dock) but it doesnt really start! i've to click on the icon to launch kde and all the x11ambient.
is there a way to log in with a user and immediatly launch kde? and is it possible not to start quartz?
thanks!!

On 10.4, I use Apple X11 for no obvious reason. I've used xorg without
any serious problem. (There was a locale issue with Apple X11 that
came with 10.3)
