Hi,
i've installed kdebase some days ago. everything works and i'm ok with it.
now i want to install the mighty amarok. but there's a thing a dont
understand: dependecies.
if i show amarok's deps i receive this long output:
*-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------*
$ fink dumpinfo -f Depends amarok

is this possible!??!? all this packages just to have amarok despite
i've already installed kdebase system??

It is possible and likely. Others may speak to the specifics, but amarok works with KDE which works with X11, so those things would have to be completely installed first.

I believe Alexander has a humorous graphic which reflects the KDE dependencies; perhaps he'll post the link.

I don't know if there is a command that will recursively show all the dependencies, but if you had a brand new operating system without fink installed, my guess is that you would need in the ballpark of 300 packages.

I didn't look to see if there is a binary available for amarok; have you tried 'sudo apt-get install amarok'? It's possible that the stable version will not work with any newer packages that you may have installed from the unstable tree, but that would be part of the fun of using the unstable packages, wouldn't it?

Best,
Robert
