Yeah, I knew probably all of this could be fixed if I fiddled with it long enough, but I only run X11 when it's needed to run the programs I want (at the moment only Emacs and occasionally OpenOffce), but then the whole point of getting a Mac was so as to not have to fiddle, so... :-)
