[Fink-beginners] ethereal 'cannot open display' error

i've perused the achives and don't see anything that's resolved this for me. i have the latest fink, x11 and ethereal installed on 10.4.5 if i run 'ethereal' via Terminal, i get this error: (ethereal:25518): Gtk-WARNING **: cannot open display: i saw one posting mentioning running "setenv DISPLAY 0.0" and i did that but got an error "command not found"...
