i've perused the achives and don't see anything that's resolved this for me.

i have the latest fink, x11 and ethereal installed on 10.4.5

if i run 'ethereal' via Terminal, i get this error:

(ethereal:25518): Gtk-WARNING **: cannot open display:

i saw one posting mentioning running "setenv DISPLAY 0.0" and i did that but got an error "command not found"... "man setenv" works but it mentions nothing about 'display' as an option.

if i run ethereal from an x11 term i get this error:

thanks for any help

Chris-

I am running OS 10.4.5 (G4 PB 1.67MHz), Fink unstable tree, xorg's X11. Loading ethereal (v. 0.10.14) from xterm (i.e., sudo ethereal) produces no errors and works as expected.

I realize this only confirms one working installation and doesn't address your problem, but I've found it helpful in the past to know that an application isn't universally broken.
