You don't say which version of Mac OSX you are running, but the others
who had this problem were on 10.3, so I'll assume you are too.
The problem came from a QuickTime update, and one of the solutions was
to downgrade QuickTime from 7.0.4 to 7.0.3 by first downgrading to 7.0.1
using
http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/quicktime701reinstallerforquicktime704.html
and then upgrading to 7.0.3.
