Anything that uses fontconfig renders in the same way, be it apple's x11 or xfree86. Anything that doesn't uses the traditional X11 rendering methods, whatever they are. I'm assuming what you're running into is the former, and not the latter, but I don't know X11 fonts in the amount of depth to answer that any better.
