Martin,

I have found out the source of the problem and it had nothing to do
with Fink. Actually it was a very stupid thing... I was so amazed by
how Fink worked well that I completely forgot  that under X there was
my MacOSX installation in action!! And Little Snitch was blocking all
the connections initiated by software he was not aware of... like
kdeinit! So, I edited Little Snitch's rules to allow traffic initiated
by KDE and everything worked!

Sorry for the fuss and the inconvenience... and again, congrats to
developers for the great job.
