There's a script in X11User.pkg that the installer runs which will
rename an old /etc/X11 directory to that when you install X11User.
But in that case it's supposed to give you a fresh /etc/X11 , too.

I assume it doesn't just overwrite what you have because that's a
place where one would do some system-level configuration.
