This is the first time I heard that "fink install ghostscript6" tries to 
install the system-ghostscript8 package. You didn't mix output logs 
there, perhaps? If not, this would be the first observation of a new 
brain disease in Fink.

There exist many different ghostscript packages, but most probably you 
want the one that is simply called "ghostscript" without any decoration. 
What do you get from a simple "fink install ghostscript"? On 
10.4/stable, this should install ghostscript-8.51.1.
