Okay, I'm back to the original problem of not being able to install
tetex. I the command line I type,

fink install tetex

and here is the end of the long string I get:

Setting up gd2 (2.0.33-2) ...
/sw/bin/dpkg-lockwait -i /sw/fink/dists/stable/main/binary-darwin-
powerpc/text/tetex-texmf_3.0-1_darwin-powerpc.deb
dpkg: regarding .../tetex-texmf_3.0-1_darwin-powerpc.deb containing
tetex-texmf:
ptex-texmf conflicts with carlisle
tetex-texmf provides carlisle and is to be installed.
/sw/bin/dpkg: error processing /sw/fink/dists/stable/main/binary-
darwin-powerpc/text/tetex-texmf_3.0-1_darwin-powerpc.deb (--install):
conflicting packages - not installing tetex-texmf
Errors were encountered while processing:

texmf_3.0-1_darwin-powerpc.deb
### execution of /sw/bin/dpkg-lockwait failed, exit code 1
Failed: can't install package tetex-texmf-3.0-1

Earlier, when trying to fix it I typed:

fink remove carlisle

but ended up right back here.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Chris

The below is what happened when I jumped through the hoop of trying
to install Ghostscript by iteself:
<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

You made me wonder too, so I tried again and here is what I get:
(like I said, I'm only trying to get ghostscript seperately like this
because of the complaint I got about ghostscript when I tried to
install tetex.)
I just noticed that I picked 8.13, so I did it again and said to
install plain ghostscript and then picked item 1

fink needs help picking an alternative to satisfy a virtual
dependency. The candidates:
(1) ghostscript-fonts: Standard fonts for Ghostscript
(2) system-ghostscript: Placeholder package for manually
installed ghostscript
(3) system-ghostscript6: Placeholder package for manually
installed ghostscript 6.01
(4) system-ghostscript8: Placeholder package for manually
installed ghostscript 8.13

Pick one: [4] 4
The following package will be installed or updated:
ghostscript6
The following additional package will be installed:
system-ghostscript8
Do you want to continue? [Y/n]
/sw/bin/dpkg-lockwait -i /sw/fink/dists/stable/main/binary-darwin-
powerpc/text/system-ghostscript8_8.13-2_darwin-powerpc.deb
(Reading database ... 32042 files and directories currently installed.)
Unpacking system-ghostscript8 (from .../system-
ghostscript8_8.13-2_darwin-powerpc.deb) ...

You don't have ghostscript version 8.13 installed in /usr/local.
Install
the ghostscript package instead.
