The lag sounds reasonable, I just wasn't sure being new to Fink and all.

I must say that using Fink beats merely compiling a package, especially when
it comes to figuring out dependencies.  And FinkCommander is a nice front
end to Fink for the CLI-phobic.  Granted, it's not quite as easy as
installing a native Mac OS app, but what do you want for nothing?
