Not really, I just need to spend some time making sure 3.5.5 can be
moved to stable, and I haven't had the time yet.  Hopefully in the next

Define "its BSD roots"  ;)

Many of the public kernel interfaces of OSX are BSD-ish, but driver
support and anything mach related is wildly different than the *BSDs.
In the context of k3b, the CD-ROM and SCSI APIs are pretty different.
This has already been ported in tools like cdparanoia and it's related
library, but for some reason, the k3b folks decided to implement their
own in certain parts of their code.  :P
