Right, but my (limited) understanding of aptitude is that it must have been used to originally install the package for its removal function to work. Perhaps this is wrong. If not then presumably it won't work with source fink installs since the .deb is installed by a simple dkpg -i. Does apt-get remove of a package that's been installed from source not do any harm? I had assumed that packages that had been installed from source should be removed with fink remove. Clearly I need to do some reading/testing.
