I was really referring to the case in which dependencies get swapped in 
and out.

When the dependencies are not correct, as in this case, you would need 
to edit the package description file 
(/sw/fink/dists/stable/main/finkinfo/editors/auctex.info) as root.

I'd recommend waiting until the appropriate dependencies get migrated to 
stable, but if you want to do this editing then I can give you more 
detailed instructions.
