That removed the files.
But I'm now at a point where I can't add the username postgres.
It's not in /etc/passwd.

Not sure where it is, but if I try to add the user via System  
Preferences I get an error "name is not available".
So something got fiddled with outside of /sw/?
(I did a machine reboot just to be sure)
