Was yours a clean install on Leopard or did you update? If the
latter, it may be that freeglut needs rebuilding to point to the right
places for stuff with X11 on Leopard.

It was a clean install on Leopard (that is, it didn't exist on Tiger. I
installed and built all fink packages on Leopard).
I ran "fink rebuild freeglut" for fun, it didn't change the situation.
