At work I’m behind a firewall and despite many tries CVS and rsync updating don’t work. I’ve got an Intel desktop MacPro and Intel MacBookPro. On the desktop I have fink installed and run the programs ARB and Gnome and some others. On the MacBookPro I’ve installed ARB and it’s dependencies (no gnome installed). How can I use the portable to do updates at home and copy the info to the MacPro? Do I need to have the exact same programs installed on both machines to copy the /sw/fink directory and then have fink update on the desktop?

Any help appreciated,

Thanks, Bob

Using the binaries that are built on the notebook is a fine plan, but it's not mandatory. If you do a selfupdate on the notebook and copy / sw/fink over to the desktop, as long as your firewall lets you do FTP or HTTP transfers, you can also build packages from source on the desktop.

The idea of having a selfupdate over HTTP has been discussed recently.
