That seems odd. I'd expect a 'permission denied' error if you don't put
"source" on the line:

Fiona:~ hansen$ /sw/bin/init.sh
-bash: /sw/bin/init.sh: Permission denied

But not when running "source /sw/bin/init.sh".

Try a new window--after running pathsetup.sh you need to open a new
session to see the changes.
