Thanks for the suggestion on the compiler, it may help a lot.
Anyway, George Helffrich answered just after I sent my e-mail:

"The build problem arises due to 10.6's Xcode cc
defaulting to compiling 64 bit binaries.  I fixed the Fink build, and
the new build commands should appear in Fink when the administrators
get around to making updated packages available.  Watch for
distribution 3.4.3-105."

As soon as the new distribution will be available, I will let you all know
if I am able to run the install procedure.
