This particular error can be avoided by adding a line
(%m = x86_64) --target=x86_64-darwin \
to the list of ConfigureParams. But then later on there are errors
inside assembler code in the file vf_fspp.c:
{standard input}:1087:32-bit absolute addressing is not supported for x86-64
{standard input}:1087:cannot do signed 4 byte relocation
and so on.
