I am not sure what you mean by "binary". The assembler part in the 
sources of the version that is currently in Fink appears indeed to be 
incompatible with 10.6/64bit. It is possible that it builds OK on 
10.6/32bit.

The mplayer folks seem to have fixed the bug in the meantime in their 
SVN repository. Unfortunately, they also seem to have given up on the 
idea to make releases in tarball form.
