The URL master.us.finkmirrors.net doesn't work any more. It is now 
distfiles.master.finkmirrors.net. I suggest to edit the file 
/sw/etc/fink.conf (needs admin rights) and replace the line starting 
with "Mirror-rsync:" by

Mirror-rsync: rsync://distfiles.master.finkmirrors.net/finkinfo/

Then selfupdate should work.
