Hello,

I am trying to install packages that are newer versions than what are
currently listed in fink list. For example, I need root v5.28.00 and fink
has listed only v5.22.00. I am using a macbook (i386) with osx 10.6, if
that's relevant.

I've tried the following command lines (based on what I've found in
archives/faqs) in terminal while logged in as root user, to no avail:
fink self-update
fink update-all
fink index
as well as some apt-get commands.

I've added the following lines to Trees in my /sw/etc/fink.conf file:
/unstable/main /unstable/crypto local/bootstrap

which increased my package list from 4k to over 10k, but still does not
have the newer versions.

I've downloaded the tar file from the root.cern website, dumped it into
/sw/src and tried to force an install from this directory by typing:
fink install <package.tar>
It appears to search the list again and fails as follows:
"Failed: no package found for specification 'blah.tar'!"

Any suggestions?
Many thanks.
