The problems for me are
a) 10.4 support - I don't even have access to 10.5 these days. I'm sure a lot 
of maintainers are in the same boat.
b) PowerPC support - same deal
c) Bringing Xfce up to date. Alias / weak alias support in the kernel - 
libxfce4ui v4.8 requires them, and through at least OS X 10.6.8 they are not 
supported.

I have most of the rest of the packages running at the latest Xfce version. I 
would be happy to provide my .info files if anyone would like to try their hand 
at a workaround or rewrite the portions with aliases. I've got enough on my 
plate these days to quite happily hand them over. I suspect the MacPorts 
maintainer is facing the same problem but I haven't looked into it recently.
