So, back to your instructions:

The X11 is installed now, from an installation DVD with Mac OS X 10.6.3 from
the year 2010.

X11-Version: XQuartz 2.3.5 (xorg-server 1.4.2-apple53)

After installing the Apple X11 I was curious and started the commend

    fink install x264

again.

Now there was the hint:

WARNING: you have an incomplete X11 installation.
  See http://finkproject.org/faq/usage-packages.php#special-x11-debug for
details on repairing it.

But no "can't resolve dependency..."

I followed these instruction given on the site from the hint above:

sudo dpkg -r --force-all system-xfree86 system-xfree86-42 system-xfree86-43 \
xorg xorg-shlibs xfree86 xfree86-shlibs \
xfree86-base xfree86-base-shlibs xfree86-rootless xfree86-rootless-shlibs \
xfree86-base-threaded xfree86-base-threaded-shlibs \
xfree86-rootless-threaded xfree86-rootless-threaded-shlibs
rm -rf /Library/Receipts/X11SDK.pkg /Library/Receipts/X11User.pkg \
 /Library/Receipts/X11Update*.pkg
fink selfupdate; fink index

New installation of X11 like adviced.

Again:

    fink install x264

...and again the hint about an incomplete X11.

The symbolic link in /usr is present: X11R6 -> X11
