You are correct, when I start X11, there is no /opt/X11/bin/quarz-wm process
running. Also, I don't have any .xinitrc files in $HOME. I tried creating a
new user account, but the same things happened with X11 in this account.
I also installed the latest XQuartz 2.7.7 on another mac without any problems.
After reinstalling 2.7.7, and rebuilding xinitrc on my computer, I compared all
the files in /opt/X11/lib/X11/xinit on both computers and they appear to be
identical. I have /opt/X11/bin/quartz-wm on my system, but for some reason the
call to it from xinitrc is not being carried out (I guess... I am not really a
shell programmer, but I don't see any obvious problems with the scripts and
they seem to be the same on both computers).
I hate bothering you with this so much. I can always go back to XQuartz 2.7.5
and get my applications to work with it, it just bugs me not to see what the
problem with 2.7.7 is when I seem to have the configuration working on another
computer (of course, it must not be the SAME, or I wouldn't have a problem).
If you care to pursue this, I would welcome any suggestions.
