Just to add to this (not sure if anyone else has mentioned it)... Having a nice graphical front-end might also be nice. It need not be distributed with Fink (although that would be a boon, and would encourage people who haven't used Fink to use it), but having it there would be nice. Fink Commander looks promising, it just needs to be refined!
