So I got this idea in my head, to write a Cocoa-based GUI for managing fink packages (listing, installing, upgrading, etc). At first, I was thinking about something more "fink-like" such as Perl/GTK or Python/GTK, but those all seem to require installing every package known to man (due to the large list of requirements for the GUI toolkits).
Then I came across the CamelBones Perl/Cocoa Objective-C bindings (http://camelbones.sourceforge.net) and realized I could write a native Cocoa GUI, but still use the Fink libraries to do all the heavy lifting. The project is just getting off the ground, and so far I've gotten to the point where a windows pops up listing the packages with their name, version, installed/uninstalled state, and the description. This is all in a table and you can sort, etc. Before I go any farther, I wanted to get feedback on the project from the "real" Fink developers. Do you guys think this is a good idea? Am I butting in and should just leave well enough alone? Should I setup a separate SourceForge project for CocoaFink (my working name) or should this be a part of the real Fink project? Your thoughts and feedback are most welcome.
