I think that you are right, and that this is the best answer
to my problem as posed.

I am trying to install 'fink imagemagick' on Jaguar, and I
am having trouble with readline-shlibs where the makefile/configure
seems to be missing a -lncurses for this platform (or we should
be making use of the termcap library). I will investigate.
