I agree fully with Bill here. This idea that Apps have a constitutional right to move around is not even true for the Apple-installed Apps in /Applications. Just move Mail.app, iCal or whatever out of /Applications. The next Software Update will leave you with a wreck. You then either have two versions and you don't know which is which, or, as has been observed in the case of Mail.app, you have only an incomplete version in /Applications plus your old version elsewhere.

Concerning FinkCommander, I am keeping my copy of the info file up-to date. Whenever I read that a new version of FC came out, I change the version number, and the next fink update-all gives me the new version. Much simpler than finding the download site, download it, unpack it, move it by hand.
