Even though people can now rebuild a lot of packages and excise libpng from there Fink installations, not everybody will do that. The whole library-versioning business was designed to handle multiple versions of libraries being installed at the same time, and in fact we'll need to at least keep libpng-shlibs around indefinitely, to accomodate users who have things installed that needs it. Apparently, libpng was not upgraded "properly" by its upstream authors; it should have been backward-compatible in a way that it was not. This is why we are having to resort to special meaures to get everything updated properly. Hopefully, other upgrades in the future will not be as painful. -- Dave ------------------------------------------------------- This SF.net email is sponsored by:Crypto Challenge is now open!
