Or perl's Mac::Carbon also could probably do the trick. The OS X port is relatively new, but i'm sure it is quite capable of asking a few questions and getting responses. The installer would just have to run the perl script.
Maybe i'll have a hack at this.. I think we've actually talked about it before on irc...
