Well for the fink package, perhaps you could move the executable and have a shell script which unsets LANG and calls the real program with the --lang flag set to the previous value of LANG.


I'd guess that there is a static constructor somewhere in one of the other objects which gets called before main() and does something odd (moves the env pointer around perhaps)
